The Visionary State

This substantial book takes a tour through California’s ecclectic spirituality. Through image and text, it explores the unique confluence of eastern, western, and mystical religious ideas and their off-beat manifestations throughout the state.

The design takes similarly off-beat influences and boils them down to a series of modular graphic elements to tie the themed sections together.

The book is quite text-heavy but still has many images, so we developed a tight grid to accommodate everything that still allowed enough flexibility to make the layout and the rhythm interesting from spread to spread.
